IDAHOT Campaign
Hello Everyone,
It’s mind-boggling to think that up until 1990, homosexuality was considered a mental disorder. It was on this day, only 26 years ago, that the World Health Organisation declassified what is now considered a normal part of sexual diversity.

That’s why the May 17th marks IDAHOT (International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia) is a day for schools, organisations and individuals to celebrate across the globe and to reflect on the gains won to achieve equality for LGBTQIA+ communities, and to raise awareness of LGBTQIA+ rights violations that continue to this day worldwide. Sexuality and gender identity is one of SCORA’s focus areas as it tackles different aspects of SOGIESC. In the joint efforts to empower the LGBTQIA+ community, we hope to raise awareness of violence, discrimination, and repression of the LGBTQIA+  communities worldwide.

We all know that discrimination still exists, but the world continues to change. With greater awareness, and more inclusive education, we can help accelerate the global trend towards not merely ‘tolerating’ or ‘accepting’ our LGBTQIA+ friends, colleagues or family members, but celebrating the diversity that exists in our communities at large. We are opening the calls for you all to share with SCORA IT, your stories and experiences for IDAHOT Testimonials. Real life stories are the most powerful way of challenging misconceptions around this topic, and they play a big part in tackling stigma and prejudice. The less we talk about this topic, the less knowledgeable society is about this. Each one presenting a unique perspective, demonstrating a wide range of
challenges as well as insights and successes and, individually as well as collectively, displaying extraordinary courage and hope.

The stories that you share with us will be published in IDAHOT testimonies and will be shared with people around the globe. These will be shared anonymously so feel free to send in your responses.
In case of you any sort of confusion feel free to contact us at this email: realizingsrhr@ifmsa.org
