In Year 9, boys are required to choose one Modern Foreign Language (that being French, German or Spanish), and three out of four subjects from Art, Drama, Music or PE.

Please note, regardless of whether your son opts for a PE lesson or not, all boys in Year 9 will have two games afternoons weekly, so this PE lesson would be in addition to games afternoons. Also, even if your son opts to not have a PE lesson in Year 9, he will still be able to select PE as a GCSE Option in Year 10.

It may be that your son would like to take two languages in Year 9. Whilst we retain the option of boys studying two languages, it should be noted that we would only allow this option if the department is sure that there is a high probability of GCSE success in their second language and if numbers make it viable.

Once we know which boys wish to continue in two languages, we can look at how best to timetable these options against other curricular components, and will provide you with further information. It may be that the second language will need to be taught in activities time, between 4.25pm and 5.25pm.
