Intern Orientation
All incoming interns will participate in a four-hour intern orientation one week prior to the start of practicum/ internship. Participation can be either in person or via zoom. Date and time to be determined.
Weekly Expectations
A minimum of 12-15 hours per week for the duration of the semester to include direct and indirect hours (with the exception of scheduled school breaks).
· Maintaining 10 clients on caseload (averaging 8 client hours per week)
· 2-5 indirect hours, including:
- 2 hours of intern training with intern group and facilitator.
- 30-60 minutes of self-study, including assigned readings and short training assignments
- 1 hour of writing progress notes and treatment plans (5-7 minutes per note on average)
- I hour of individual supervision
- 30 minutes per week (or the equivalent thereof) checking in with assigned mentor.
Peer Mentor Program
Each intern will be assigned to a peer mentor at the start of the internship program. Mentors will meet with interns throughout the duration on the internship for the equivalent of 2 hours per month to provide additional support and guidance. Interns and mentors will collectively determine how and when they meet (i.e., in person for an hour every two weeks; via phone for 15 minutes a week, etc.).
Once a month, interns will participate in a peer consultation group (either in person or via zoom). The date and time to be determined prior to the start of the semester. This time may take the place of 1 hour of peer mentor time per month.
*Mentors are clinicians who have completed their practicum/ internship with IFC and are now employed as Licensed Professional Counselor Candidates (LPCCs).
