6th Grade Band

Attention 5th Grade Families:

It is that time of year where we begin focusing on your child and their transition to 6th Grade at Newcomb Middle School. Our process begins with us looking at options offered to students when they arrive. One of the options offered as part of the curriculum at Newcomb Middle School is band. Being a member of the band at Newcomb Middle School is an exciting opportunity for students to become better at their instrument, perform with a large group of musicians and have fun while doing something that requires focus and practice. The 6th Grade Band performs in several concerts during the school year: the Helen Fort & Newcomb Middle School Winter and Spring Concerts, and the Pemberton Township School District Band Festival. In addition to performing for the community, concerts are taped for broadcast on Pemberton Township Schools YouTube channel and cable channel 19.

Band is a full-year commitment and requires parent permission as students will be assigned to a Band class that meets every other day, in lieu of elective classes (art, general music, Spanish and coding). Students are not pulled out of core academic classes to participate in Band. Instruments are required. If your child is currently in 5th grade, please continue to have them use the instrument they are currently playing. It is recommended to continue rentals over the summer or purchase a good quality instrument to use in September.

If you would like your child to be enrolled in band at Newcomb Middle School for the 2020-2021 School Year, please complete this online form no later than April 3, 2020.
