Strengthening social-emotional learning (SEL) in our students is an important part of Andover’s Portrait of a Graduate (developed by students, educators, parents and community members). Social-emotional learning describes the mindsets, skills, attitudes and feelings that help our students succeed in school, career and life.
One way we learn more about student experiences is through an online survey through which students are asked to provide feedback. This survey is given at school and typically takes no more than 20-30 minutes to complete. All students answer the same questions, using a 5-point scale for their responses. This student feedback will provide invaluable insights into their experiences and help us know how to improve and adapt our district to their needs.
Our goal is to support all students as they learn more about themselves and how they learn best. The information collected on the survey will be used to inform teaching practices and help make our school environments even better.
Students will be asked to complete an online survey that encourages them to reflect on their own mindsets and approaches to learning. The survey will focus on the following topics:
Growth Mindset: Student perceptions of whether they have the potential to change those factors that are central to performance in school
Learning Strategies: How well students deliberately use strategies to manage their own learning processes generally
Emotion Regulation: How well students manage their emotions
Sense of Belonging: How much students feel they are valued members of the school community
Engagement: How attentive and invested students are in school
In order to make an informed decision, we have linked the specific questions below. Please keep in mind that these surveys are completely anonymous and your child will not be asked for their name.

You may also be interested to know the following:
1. The survey is completely anonymous. Students will not be asked for their names on the questionnaire, nor will anyone be able to connect any individual student with his/her responses. School staff will not see any one student’s responses, but only summaries of results.
2. Participation is entirely voluntary. Your child may decline to participate in the survey or may simply skip any question they do not wish to answer.
3. Annual participation is important. Even if your child has participated in previous surveys, annual data is extremely helpful in determining the effectiveness of previous efforts and changes in program areas.
I hope you will allow your child to participate. Please check the appropriate box below. All parents must submit this form by Friday, February 10th.
Sincerely,
