ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must:
1. Be a high school senior who has been in an ESL program at one point during grades K-12.
2. Be a currently enrolled senior in a DFW or surrounding area high school.
APPLICATION DEADLINE
Wednesday, April 30, 2025 by 11:59 pm (no exceptions)
All sections (Parts I, II, and III) must be completed and submitted by the application deadline.  Submission of an application with incomplete information or without required documents by the application deadline will result in the student not being eligible for scholarship consideration. Missing information will lead to disqualification.
SELECTION CRITERIA
The selection committee will determine awardees of this scholarship based on the following criteria (in no particular order):
  1. Applicant's detailed, thorough, and focused response to the essay question
  2. Two letters of reference that explain why the applicant should be awarded the scholarship
  3. Applicant's academic GPA and/or class rank
  4. Applicant's involvement in the school or community
  5. Applicant's explanation of future goals
GUIDELINES
To be considered for one of the TexTESOL V scholarships, a student must:
1. Be a high school senior who has been in an ESL program at one point during grades K-12.
2. Be a currently enrolled senior in a DFW or surrounding area high school.

To complete this application, you will need to complete the following sections and provide the requested documents/information:

    Part I. Personal Information Form
    Part II. Personal Reflection– Original Essay 
    Part III. Letters of Reference (2) and Transcript  

NOTIFICATION:  The scholarship committee will select winners and send award letters in May.

PLEASE NOTE: Ensure that the application form you are submitting your application through says "2025" at the top of the form. All other forms, such as submission on a form from a prior year (ex. 2024) will be disqualified.

PART II.  PERSONAL ESSAY:
Write a personal essay in response to ONLY ONE of the essay topics below. (Essay must be typed, double spaced, size 12, Times New Roman font, 800 words minimum)

1.  Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to address this challenge. Include whether you turned to anyone in facing the challenge, the role the person played, and what you learned about yourself.

PART III.   LETTERS OF REFERENCE & TRANSCRIPT:  
TWO (2) letters of reference must be from current or former teachers, and transcripts must be uploaded or emailed as specified below. 

The letters of reference must include the title, mailing address, email address, and telephone number of each person making the recommendations. Copies of letters will be acceptable.

FAQ- Frequently Asked Questions
Q-- Can I still qualify for the scholarship if I enroll in the military? Btw, I plan on attending summer school to get a head start.              
A--Yes, please apply!

Q-- Can I submit Part I of the application (this form) if I do not have Parts II and III completed?
A-- Yes, you can submit this form and provide your documents (Parts II & III) at a later date. However, they must be submitted by the application deadline, Wednesday, April 30th, 11:59 pm (no exceptions).
