A message from Mr. Cunningham, Superintendent of Fort Payne City Schools
Dear Parents,

We are currently making plans to begin the school year following our current school calendar.  The first day of school will be August 12, 2020. We are also adapting schedules and increasing our cleaning and personal hygiene activities to promote the healthiest instructional environment possible.

It is impossible to elaborate on all of the details regarding our planning in this letter, but please know that our goal is to provide the healthiest and highest quality instructional environment feasible for your children. We plan to follow the current Alabama Department of Health Guidelines, but in some instances, it may be difficult to maintain absolute social distancing at all times while providing high quality instruction.

There will be two options for returning to school on August 12th: traditional (on campus) or virtual (online at home) school. Online instruction will be hosted by Fort Payne City Schools through the Alabama State Department of Education through a full time virtual offering that allows students to learn online if parents choose to keep them at home for the upcoming school year.  While the students will have support from teachers, it will be more rigorous than what you experienced in the spring and will require an extensive daily time commitment. The survey below is designed to elicit responses from you in order to assist us in our planning for the upcoming school year.  Please give serious thought to the questions in the survey and respond as soon as you are able, preferably by Thursday, July 2nd.

We appreciate your patience during this process and assure you that we are working tirelessly to provide the best education for your children.

Thank you for your input,

Jim Cunningham
Superintendent

PLEASE READ: Virtual Learning in Fort Payne City Schools
Fort Payne City Schools will offer a virtual learning platform as an alternative to returning to a school campus for the 2020-2021 school year. In the next question, you will be asked to choose traditional or virtual school for the start of the new school year. The following are a few points to consider before choosing virtual learning for your child:
1. Content will be more rigorous than it was in the Spring of 2020.
2. Students must participate in online classes and complete assigned work daily.
3. Assignments will be graded.
4. Students will be required to be virtual for an entire nine weeks period.
What are your plans for this student for the 2020-2021 school year? *
If you plan for this child to attend physical school, will your child be a bus rider? *
We ask that students be transported to and from school by parents, if possible. If not, regular bus routes will run. Any student that will ride a bus will be required to wear a mask.
FPCS values your input. Please feel free to leave any additional comments below.
