Burns Park Elementary Volunteer Interest Form 2023-2024
Thank you for your interest in helping out for the 2023 - 2024 school year!

There are a range of opportunities available to help in many capacities and various commitment levels, from one time per year, monthly or several times per week.  We appreciate any time and talents you are able to lend to the community to make this year productive and fulfilling for students, families and staff.

Below is a description of several available opportunities, followed by a quick form. We look forward to matching everyone with their interests!
  • Room parents play an important role in ensuring that teachers are receiving support in the classroom, communicate events to families, help recruit volunteers for classroom and school-wide activities, and plan parties and events as requested by teachers. If you are interested in being a room parent, please complete this form by September 18th.  If you'd like to be the room parent for multiple class rooms please complete it multiple times.  There will be a room parent information session scheduled in late September.
  • Lunch Recess Helpers work with staff to provide a fun and safe space for students for either Upper (grades 3, 4, 5) or Lower (Y5, K, 1, 2) playgrounds. We are in great need of additional support during lunch and recess time! Please note:
    • Must have a current background check on file with the office
    • Must be COVID-19 vaccinated
    • Do not need to be a parent/guardian, but must be 18+
  • Disability Awareness Workshop is a one-day, hands-on workshop for Burns Park 4th graders offering students insight into living with physical disabilities. Volunteers are needed to manage the many stations that make up this important workshop.
  • Inclusion Committee aims to fully include all BPE students, families, and staff in our community—and we have a budget to support our goal. Members of the Inclusion Committee enroll the “people power”; connect people who can share their knowledge; create new ways to make things work better; run an occasional errand (like pick up food or supplies for which they will be completely reimbursed); support other committee chairs in their inclusion efforts; and continue to learn and to build paths so that all students, families, and staff have the opportunity to thrive at BPE.
  • Special Events - There are numerous events (Burns Park Run, Ice Cream Social, Field Day, Teacher Appreciation, etc.) that take place throughout the year, some to raise funds for the school, and others to provide fun for the community or thanks to the staff.  There are many ways to get involved!
  • Walk and Talk Coach- Volunteers are needed on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays during lunch recess in the Fall and Spring to organize and distribute student lap cards, keep track of laps completed, and distribute prizes. Come out and encourage fitness while getting to know the amazing students at Burns Park!
  • Yearbook Committee members work with the editor to ensure class activities, parties, field trips and spirit of the school are captured throughout the year, and ultimately to have everyone look back and see a fair representation of what their school year was like.

***Please note that the Ann Arbor Public Schools District policy is that all volunteers have a background check on file. Please return your completed Volunteer Background Check Form to the Burns Park Elementary Office staff before beginning activities. The background check takes about a week to process and must be renewed every school year.
