ArtHaus is 'your haus' in downtown Decorah, Iowa bringing visual, performing, and literary art together and offering creative educational and cultural programs for all ages. We are looking for volunteers to help us continue our mission of connecting people through creativity. We offer a variety of opportunities for volunteers of all ages, interests, and time commitments. Below are brief descriptions of our volunteer opportunities:
Welcome Desk Volunteer (18+)
- Provide tours of ArtHaus and ensure the front space is clean and organized. Must be acquainted with the variety of ArtHaus offerings and able to answer questions or direct them to the right individuals
- Take calls, open the register, and assist guests with purchases via Square
Open Studio Volunteer (ages 16+)
- Help guests find needed materials for their projects and get set up in the space. Must be acquainted with materials in the studio and the variety of ArtHaus offerings
- Weed and water dye garden in season
- Assist with special, creative projects for upcoming events and activities
- Organize and supervise open studio clubs
- Serve as classroom assistant when needed
Classroom Assistant Volunteer (14+)
- Assist instructors with classes or private parties. Must be acquainted with the studio and safety precautions
- Supervise classes and assist with clean up
- May be requested for any classes, and used for weekly classes
Walking School Bus Volunteer (18+)
- Walk kids from school to ArtHaus for after school classes
- Must be available between 2:45 and 3:15 on weekdays
Back Office Volunteer (18+)
- Draft emails, conduct data entry, create social media content
- Prior experience preferred but not required
- [At ArtHaus] Help set up and tear down, run the front desk, provide general ArtHaus information, and help the event run smoothly.
- [Local Organization] Work directly at local establishments and businesses outside of ArtHaus, set up space, tear down, work with guest artists/performers, seek out sponsors, sell tickets/merchandise, prepare/serve snacks
Eligibility Criteria:
- Be willing to provide all individuals with a safe environment.
- Agreement to a background check.
- Be free of any charge or conviction of any offense involving the harm or abuse of a child.
- Must be 18 or older for certain volunteer opportunities.
