The modular open-source optics platform "
UC2" [You.See.Too.] has been around for around 5 years now. It has been used in education and professional contexts around the world. Many ideas, especially outside the core developer team in Jena, have contributed to the development process and we are very happy to contribute to a more open development for scientific instruments by means of open repositories, contributions in software (e.g. ImSwitch) and seminars on how to document all that.
We are very happy to announce that the GOSH (Gathering of Open-Source Hardware) awarded us with funding for doing an open hardware-related event. Obviously, we want to use this money to make open optics even more useful to the community. Therefore, we are planning to bring parts of the community into one place and focus on the development of community-suggested ideas. This can be UC2-based modules, setups or plugins or related topics. You can find the module challenge here:
We plan to have an intense ~24 hour hackathon at the "Lichtwerkstatt" Jena, Germany on 14.-15. July to realize ideas suggested and voted by the community. We will have parts, cubes, pizza, beer, water, fun, lenses, some lasers, leds, tools, (3D) printers, electricity, little time and will document, suffer, work hard and be open! All the results will be shared with the community. 3 groups will be formed to work on the topics. We plan to have mentoring sessions, short presentations and hands-on sessions.
If this sounds all very interesting to you, we are eager to see you in the Lichtwerkstatt. Go and apply using this form. We try to get everybody on site, but we are a bit limited in space. Most events will be recorded and streamed.

Catering and accommodation
We will organize foods and drinks (most likely something pizza-related, soft-drinks, water and beer); for people from far-away we recommend the B&B in Jena
