Undergraduate research opportunities
I review the responses to this form once or twice per semester. We are not looking for huge amounts of comp bio experience in order to join our lab, but students do need some minimal coding experience prior to beginning a research experience. Primarily, I am looking for curiosity and evidence of engagement with scientific questions. I don't really care about your grades, so long as you can demonstrate enough proficiency in the basic skills needed to participate.
Students in the lab tend to:
1. Run simulations of population genetic models
2. Analyze genomic data to infer how evolutionary processes may shape patterns of variation
I typically ask students to attend one or two lab meetings at least before committing to a research experience, to make sure that the types of questions we address are of interest to you and the training you would receive will fit with your goals. We support students on a variety of career trajectories, it is not required that you envision a career in research.
Students can complete research for course credit or as part of a paid position. Typically, we don't support volunteer research.
If this sounds potentially interesting to you, feel free to complete the form and we will respond when we can, typically mid or late semester.
