Empire Theatre Academy will provide an opportunity for participants to explore the craft of acting and stage craft in a small group setting (max. of 16 individuals). Participants will rehearse a non-musical play while working on polishing their acting skills through weekly master classes with director Ryan King and visiting professional performers. This summer, the play is She Kills Monsters by Qui Nguyen .
Participants/Parents/guardians should familiarize themselves with the script. However, here is a brief synopsis:
She Kills Monsters tells the story of high schooler Agnes Evans as she deals with the death of her younger sister, Tilly. When Agnes stumbles upon Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, she finds herself catapulted into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was her sister’s refuge. The plot takes place in reality and in the imaginary game world; In the game world Agnes embarks on an action-packed quest to save her sister's soul, coming face to face with homicidal fairies, raunchy ogres and blood thirsty cheerleaders, learns about Tilly's exploration with her sexuality and discovers a side of herself she never knew existed.
Cost for the 7 week workshop is $175. Due to the generosity of an Arts Re-grant from the City of GF, the Empire Arts Center can provide 1 full scholarship and 2 partial. Please indicate need on this form and submit a letter requesting scholarship consideration, along with your 1-minute video audition* to etc@empireartscenter.com.
*The audition should be a 1-minute monologue from a play or a 1-minute recitation of a poem.
