Our work fundraising and planning activities supports the students, teachers, and staff of Garner Elementary, but we can't do it without YOU.

Reasons to volunteer with us:
1. We’re welcoming. To us, there are no “outsiders.” We couldn’t be happier to have you join us in working toward those goals.

2. We make a difference.Our mission is to create the kind of school community where teachers and administrators can do their best work—and so can our children. We provide support for teachers in and out of the classroom. We provide resources they need. We help create learning opportunities for children.

3. We have fun. Volunteer work shouldn’t be drudgery. We accomplish a lot, and not everything we do is easy. But we also don’t take ourselves too seriously, and we try to enjoy ourselves along the way whenever possible.

4. We pledge to honor your time constraints. People are often reluctant to participate because they’re afraid they’ll get pulled into a black hole of never-ending time commitment. That won’t happen here. An hour or two a semester really makes a difference. And we won’t push you to commit more than you want to or are able to.

5. You'll tap into a network. PTO functions are opportunities to meet other parents and teachers, to build rapport and discuss issues that are on your mind. We are neighbors and peers and as a result, many friendships are forged via this connection.

Spirit Wear Committee: This group chooses apparel for our online Spirit Wear store, spreads the word, and organizes orders & payments.

Original Artworks: Compile parent packets and distribute to classrooms and Collect order forms/payment and mail to original artworks

School Supply Kit Committee: Advertise School supply kit sales on social media, take inventory of kits upon arrival, and distribute kits to classrooms before ice cream social

Yearbook Committee: This committee chooses the yearbook cover and layout, gathers candid/group photos for the yearbook, organizes and advertises yearbook sales and distribution of yearbooks to students.

Garner Green Fundraiser: This committee helps plan our fall direct-ask fundraiser. They select classroom and individual prizes and organize distribution of prizes to winners

Restaurant Nights: This committee contacts local business that offer family fundraiser nights, selects dates for these events and helps advertise them. In the past these have included McDonalds, Subway, Marcos Pizza, and Pizza Ranch

Family Fun Nights: This committee helps organize family fun nights such as movie night and night at the Iowa Children's Museum.

Fun Fair: This committee helps plan our yearly family fun fair. This event is our largest "free family fun" event.

Waffle Breakfast: This committee helps plan one our larger fundraising events. This includes organizing the waffle breakfast, organizing the classroom basket items, and collecting donations from local businesses.

Mini Dance Marathon: This committee works with the UIOWA dance marathon coordinators to schedule our mini dance marathon. This includes selecting a date for the dance, planning fundraising ideas leading up to the event, securing food/snack donations for the dance, and scheduling Herky, the DJ, or other entertainment for the dance.

Conference meals- This committee contacts business to donate meals or parts of meals for conference days/nights. They also will create a sign up genius for parents to bring in items and will organize set up/clean up of meals.

Teacher Appreciation week: This committee comes up with the theme for teacher appreciation week, plans and obtains the daily "treats", obtains donations from parents (as needed)

Monthly Staff Treats: This committee contacts business to sponsor (or donate) monthly staff treats, comes up with ideas for staff treats (in the past this has been a caramel apple bar, yogurt parfait bar, trail mix bar etc.), organizes volunteers to deliver and set up the treats in the teacher work room

PTO Newsletter: Writes the weekly blurb for the school newsletter. Creates a monthly PTO newsletter

District-wide parent organization (DPO) representative: One individual is needed to attend a once monthly lunch-hour meeting (lunch provided!) DPO meeting and report back to the PTO at the general membership meetings.

Forms
