Career Day has been an anticipated and exciting event for middle school students across the district for many years. Career Day offers our students insight into many different career fields. It gives our students an opportunity to learn what is needed to be successful in various fields/industries. And we want our students to understand that no career path is ever a straight line, and within any career there are lots of different avenues they can follow.
We are working to host Career Day at Leota to support our students. However, we need your help.
Career Day will be held Monday, May 22, at 1:15-2:30 pm virtually (Zoom). Details on volunteering are below.
Format:
- All students/classrooms kick off with info about the event
- Classroom hears from Speakers 1 & 2 about their career, how they got there, what’s exciting about it (5-7 min presentation each, plus 5-7 min Q&A)
- Short break
- Classroom hears from Speakers 3 & 4 about their career, how they got
there, what’s exciting about it (5-7 min presentation each, plus 5-7 min Q&A)
Our ask of you:We are looking for presenters from ALL career fields and paths, including professional, trade, service industry, stay-at-home parents--you name it, we welcome it! As a presenter, you will:
- Participate as a presenter, as described above.
- Present alone or alongside one other presenter. Please approach it as a casual
conversation. Slides or presentation materials are not necessary.
- Meet with a class of students, present as above, and rotate to second classroom to repeat. Each rotation will last ~20 minutes. The last 5 minutes of each rotation should allow for students’ questions.
- During each rotation you will share information about:
- Your career journey: the path you took to get to where you are today.
- Your field/profession: what is it?
- Your job: what you do (what students want to hear about most!)
To volunteer as a presenter, please fill out this very brief form by Monday, May 8. If we don’t have enough volunteers, this will give us enough time to notify existing volunteers with minimal interruption.If you know someone who would be an asset to our students, please forward this invitation to them!
