Join us virtually for the Deep Ocean Observing Strategy's first Annual Meeting - "Addressing Global Challenges in the Deep Sea through Collaboration.”

Come together with the deep ocean community to engage in and help focus initiatives that address global challenges in the deep sea. Contribute your ideas and priorities to this network of networks as we work together to leverage global expertise, find new areas for collaboration, and chart a course ahead for deep sea science for the next decade.

The meeting will run from May 3-5. Days 1 & 3 (May 3 & 5) will be full group meetings from 1100-1500ET. Day 2 (May 4) will consist of individual, 2-hr working group meetings spanning from 1000-1700ET to dig into specific actions to address these global challenges. Please indicate your sessions of interest in this form so that we can most effectively schedule them throughout the day. Once these individual sessions are scheduled you will have the opportunity to officially register for each and can also simply drop by on the day of.

Subpolar North Atlantic Demonstration Project: Assessing observational gaps for climate assessment and physics/BGC/ecosystem modeling, and coordinating regional observing system design experiments

Science-based Conservation Actions - Habitat/ecological mapping and data stream planning to optimize data delivery for use in spatially-managed areas

Essential Ocean Variables - Proposing new deep-ocean focused EOVs across physical, biogeochemical, and biology/ecosystem disciplines (co-led by GOOS)

Developing shared best practices, standards, and cross-calibration procedures (co-led by OceanPractices)

Coordinating and sharing data for higher trophic level pelagic species

Using Science to Inform Management and Policy: the UN Ocean Decade and connecting with UN agencies (co-led by DOSI)

Technology integration, development and readiness levels

Capacity development for developing and middle income countries (co-led by the Ocean Discovery League)

Translating science to stakeholders and end users via the geographic approach (co-led by Esri)
