The Transmedia Zone is a unique storytelling incubator at TMU. We help launch storytellers, innovative projects & creative startups, who dare to change media & entertainment.

Some of our projects begin as student projects, but mostly, we have a robust community of industry professionals from outside of the university, working on the next wave of entertainment and media. 

Though our regular pitch dates and member applications, still apply for students, we know a lot of you just aren't ready to take on that time commitment. We understand students have a lot on their plate, and aren't always ready, or have the time to be creative full time. This is why we created the TZ Student League, it's here to help you, work on yourself and harness your creativity and better strategy, to become a more well rounded storyteller and entrepreneur, while building the runway to help you think more like the creative self starter required to thrive in the modern media landscape.

Q: What do I have to be interested in, in order to join?

Q: What's the Difference Between Being a TZ Member and Being Part of the TZ Student League?

A: To become an official member of TZ, applicants have to have a project ready to be taken on full time, they go through a pretty thorough application process, a pitch presentation, in front of our TZ staff, and it's quite competitive, as we only take around 10-15 projects/companies every year.  They're also eligible to get bi-weekly strategic advice and a bespoke road map for their journey. There's also membership fees, with an option to rent a hot desk monthly.

Q: Okay, then what's the Student League?

A: The Student League allows you to enter the TZ community, without yet having an idea for a project OR just having a very early stage idea. It allows you to take the ideas, and craft you're learning at school - and apply it to what interests YOU and grow your creativity and business mind.

What you Can Expect From Us:

- Access to select TZ member events
- Monthly open hours with TZ leadership and strategic advisors, as well as our TZ members.
- A first look on job and volunteer postings from TZ Startups, projects and members.
- Newsletter showcasing media jobs, trends, opportunities, and notifications on the best of TZ.
- Access to the TZ League Discord, where you can connect with other students and TZ members.
- Help from TZ bridging your league status to a TZ membership if you decide to pursue a specific idea/project/company.
- An excitement and a drive to help you and your ideas take flight. The TZ leadership, will become your biggest supporters and offer, enthusiasm, encouragement and constructive honesty at every step of the way.

What We Expect of You:

Creativity, Community and Collaboration. We want folks who are interested in community, sharing knowledge and who want to be an active part, of a network of driven, creative storytellers and creative entrepreneurs, who are looking to innovate and challenge the status quo. It's not about your time, just your energy - when you have the time.
