2023 University of Georgia January High School Band Festival Guest Band Application
Please complete the application below as fully and accurately as possible. Then send a recording of the applying group to us by one of the following methods:

1. www.wetransfer.com to rakridge@uga.edu (preferred method and free of charge).
2. Email to rakridge@uga.edu with the subject "JanFest Guest Band Submission 2023."
3. U.S. Mail or other ground carrier to Rob Akridge:
UGA JanFest
c/o Rob Akridge
250 River Road
Athens, GA 30602

The recording should be live, unedited, and representative of the ensemble's performance ability. We recommend a recording of three works. Be sure to compress emailed recordings to mp3 format (iTunes can do this for you. Instructions here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1550 ).

Recordings submitted should be live, unedited, and representative of the ensemble's performance ability. We recommend a recording of three works.

Priority for invitation will be awarded to:
Exceptional ensembles who have not performed at JanFest in the last four years.
Ensembles that demonstrate excellence through submitted live recordings and have had students participate in JanFest in the past.

Process:
Rob Akridge, Director of Festivals, listens to the complete recording and identifies strongest and weakest moments.
Each recording is assigned a number and the rest of the faculty listens to recordings “blind.”
Ensembles will either be eliminated or progress in the process after listening to previously identified strongest and weakest moments.
Recordings are further reviewed by faculty – in longer sections – to be eliminated or chosen to perform.

Notes:
In the past, the digital recording quality has affected ensemble acceptance a great deal.
Quality of repertoire (on recording and performance history) plays a large part in the selection process.
We select ensembles  in comparison with other ensembles  that submit applications the same year.
We strongly encourage excellent ensembles to apply from underrepresented communities

Deadline for application is Friday, April 15, 2022 at 5:00PM EDT.  Deadline for receipt of recordings is also Friday, April 15, 2022 at 5:00pm EDT.
