ETA Lobby Day Signups 2024

What:  Lobbying our state legislators

Why: Being an advocate for public schools goes beyond politics. It means supporting and advocating for policies that benefit the students, educators and communities, all of whom rely on strong public schools. 

Dates: Wed, January 24; Tues, February 13; Tues, March 5; Tues, March 12 (TENTATIVE)

Lobbying Experience:  Previous lobbying experience is not required.  First time teacher lobbyists are partnered with another ETA member. 

Time Lobbying:  9 am - 1 pm CT  (10am – 2pm ET)

Time Leaving Evansville: 5:45 am CT

Time returning to Evansville: 5 - 6 pm CT

Substitute: Make sure you register with ETA before ISTA. ETA can cover substitutes for up to four (4) members on lobby dates. If you don't register with ETA first, you'll have to use your personal day.

ETA Sign up Process:  Complete this form and WAIT for ETA to confirm that we will pay for your substitute BEFORE registering with ISTA and getting a substitute. 

Dress: Business casual - dress pants, RED shirt, etc.

Itinerary/Logistics:

  • ETA will organize carpool arrangements several days before the lobby day
  • Meet at the ISTA Southwest Office, 701 John Street, at 5:45 am (CT) unless another location is selected
  • Stop in Crane, IN for a break
  • Arrive in Indy by 9:00 am (CT)
  • Check in with ISTA
  • Attend the ISTA briefing at 9 a.m. (CT)
  • Walk across the street to the State House and go through security
  • Meet with legislators
  • Return to the ISTA building for lunch. ISTA provides a box lunch
  • Return to Evansville by 6 pm (CT)
