Music Department undergraduate and MM strings are assigned to UCLA Philharmonia. Winds, brass, percussion and harp will be assigned for all three quarters immediately following the Fall audition period, and will generally involve some rotation among the ensembles. We urge you to consult this new FAQ page (also posted on the “About” page of uclaorchestras.com) with the most current information about the three ensembles, large ensemble curricular requirements for Music Department majors, and audition procedures.

Do you have scheduling conflicts with any of the large ensembles that you are applying for? If so, please list specifically when you unavailable, including which academic quarter(s) the conflict(s) are in.  *
Please check your schedule for conflicts with concerts dates (schedule available on uclaorchestras.com in the “Concerts” tab). Concert dates are provided to assist with advance planning and help avoid conflicts with potential outside engagements. Students will receive ensemble assignments for all three quarters of the year at the end of fall auditions, so you can protect these UCLA performance dates in your calendar. If you are aware already of a possible conflict, please make note of it here, and we will try to make accommodations in ensemble assignments where possible.

Additionally, please inform us of conflicts with any of the following typical rehearsal times: 
  • Philharmonia: 3:05 - 5:50pm Tuesdays and Thursdays 
  • Symphony: 7:30 - 10:00pm Wednesdays
  • Wind Ensemble: 3:00 - 5:35pm Mondays and Wednesdays

Please note that we request you check in at least 30 minutes before your audition. 

Every effort will be made to assign you an audition time that fits in your schedule.
