2022 - YMCA Adult Adaptive Swim Volunteer Survey
Thank you for taking the time to consider volunteering to assist adults with physical disabilities  learn to swim.

This program and your volunteer work will be coordinated through the Rose E. Schneider Family YMCA

Program Goals: To provide aquatic instruction to adults 18 years and older with physical disabilities that would like to learn to swim or just get back into the water safely.

We are looking for the following types of volunteers:

1.  Land Volunteers - provide assistance getting swimmers ready to get in the water and assist participants with entering and exiting the pool.  Assist in transferring from a wheelchair to a water wheelchair when necessary.  Provide administrative duties on land as needed.

2.  Water Volunteers - provide 1 on 1 supervision of a swimmer in the water and work with them once given tasks by the swim instructor.  You must be able to swim and be comfortable working with adults learning to swim.
Having knowledge of free style and/or backstroke swimming techniques would be helpful but is not necessary.  What's more important is the desire to share your joy for swimming!

3.  Swim Instructors - those having experience in swim instruction or would like to learn to instruct those with physical disabilities how to swim.  See the program description below for the levels being offered.

If you have never worked with physically challenged adults we think you will find the experience rewarding.  No prior experience is necessary.  We will have a training session for you to attend prior to the first session.

Please indicate the classes and time slots you are able to assist.  This is not a 100% commitment but will give us an idea of which dates we may have gaps.
