Steve Fairbairn Award - Nova Scotia Snowboard
Steven Fairbairn has been a snowboarder since 1990, way before snowboarding was considered a sport and 8 years before the first event in the Olympics. He was one of six founding members of Snowboard Nova Scotia (formerly the Nova Scotia Snowboard Association) taking on the role as first president of the association and helped host the first snowboard event in Nova Scotia.

He helped Canada Snowboard develop their first LTAD, the coaching curriculum from Comp Intro to Com Dev, he was the Assistant Team Manager 2006 Winter Olympics, a Board member Canada Snowboard for 20 years and Head coach NS Snowboard Association (2008-2011 volunteering for years previous to that). His contributions to the race program in Nova Scotia has led to athletes competing Nationals, NorAm’s and even world cups with numerous retired athletes returning to the sport to coach.

The Steve Fairbairn Award is presented to a local snowboarder who displays a positive attitude, a need for funding and a promising future in snowboard racing. This award is available to any race athlete at the provincial level who is a member of Snowboard Nova Scotia and in good standing with Canada Snowboard. With only one bursary awarded annually, both male and female athletes are encouraged to apply.

The following nomination form must be submitted by end of day on July 13th, 2022. Presentation of the NS Snowboard Awards will take place during the Nova Scotia Snowboard Annual General Meeting, July 20th, 2022.
