Below you will find an overview of what Bracken County Schools Virtual Academy entails. 
**Please note that filling out this application does not guarantee your child’s acceptance into the Virtual Academy the district is offering.

Who is eligible: Students in grades 6-12 would have the opportunity to complete an application to the BC Virtual Academy. All applications will be reviewed and a determination will be made based on established criteria.

Educational Program: BCMS and BCHS Virtual students would take courses through Edgenuity and/or district approved platforms. Scheduling/course selection would be based on availability of courses.  

Facilitator: A Bracken County Schools staff member would monitor student progress; however, this person would only be accessible to the student through scheduled meeting times.

Athletics/Extra-Curricular Activities: BCMS and BCHS Virtual students would be ineligible to participate in sports and extra-curricular activities.

Devices/Internet: Students would have access to a school device and would be expected to follow the district policy on use of the device. Students participating in this Virtual Academy MUST have access to reliable internet. The district would not be providing internet access.

Time of Instruction: BCMS & BCHS Virtual students would not be required to be online during a specific time of the day unless meeting with a staff member.  

Assessments: Students would be required to participate in any state assessments which WILL require the student to come to school at an assigned time to take the assessment. Local assessments may be taken remotely when possible.

Vocational School:  BCHS Virtual students would not be eligible for vocational school classes.

Dual Credit Courses: BCHS Virtual students may participate in dual credit courses IF the courses are offered online.

Academic Eligibility:  Students who did not receive a passing grade in two or more core classes or who did not receive a passing grade in three or more total classes during the 21-22 school year are not eligible.  During the 22-23 school year students, must maintain passing grades in at least 5 of the 7 total classes to remain virtual. Determination if a student should remain virtual or switch to in-person will only occur at the end of each grading period.  Grades will be checked at 3p on the following dates.  If your child is not passing 5 or more classes, you will receive an email stating they return to school the next school day.

End of 1st Quarter:  10-24-2022
End of 2nd Quarter: 1-3-2023
End of 3rd Quarter: 3-13-2023

Length of Program:  Students enrolled in in-person instruction will remain in that mode of instruction for the entire school year.  However, if your child is enrolled as virtual, they must be passing 5 out of 7 total classes to remain virtual or they will have to switch to in-person for the remainder of the school year. Grade evaluation will be done at the end of each quarter.  Once your child begins the year in person, they may not switch to virtual.

**In the event that a BCMS or BCHS Virtual student would need to come to their school, they will be responsible for their own transportation.

Demographic Requirements
Students residing in the Bracken County School District, or a school district that has a non-resident agreement with Bracken County.
Non-resident students must meet the criteria for admission set forth by the Bracken County Board of Education;

Academic / Behavior Requirements
Students must meet standards / academic performance on or above grade level.
Students must meet proficiency benchmarks on reading and mathematics.
Students must be in compliance with code of conduct and attendance expectations.


Technology Requirements
Students must have reliable access to high speed internet (a Chromebook device will be provided).

Any student with a current IEP or 504 Plan must have approval from the Director of Special Education and the Admission &  Release Committee (ARC) to be accepted into the BCVA.
