Pecatonica CUSD #321: The purpose of this survey to is to gain valuable data on the topic of masks and safety mitigations across the district. As you are all aware, the recent judge's ruling on Feb. 4th deemed the mask mandates, exclusion, and testing as null and void for those named in the lawsuit. Per our district's legal team, that ruling does not technically apply to our district. With that said, an appeal was filed by the Attorney General and we anxiously anticipate a ruling one way or another from the Appellate Court this week. If the ruling comes out and says that all these outlined safety mitigations are in fact null and void specific to all pubic K-12 schools, we want to be prepared to pivot to a mask optional setting. It is important to note that there are at least two sides to this topic and it is necessary to gauge the mindset and needs of our community to be sure to offer the safest learning environment possible. If the ruling comes back that the outlined mandates are in fact applicable and legally applied to all schools, we will continue business as usual since the start of the year. The Governor did state last week that the plan is to drop mask mandates for businesses at the end of the month but that it could be weeks yet before it would apply to schools. Your response to this survey will remain anonymous and is very important as I try to evaluate the landscape across our district so that administratively a solid plan can be developed and implemented.
