Algebra Masterclass
This online course is taught online by Colin Thomas, Head of Mathematics at ULMaS.

This course is ideal for able students in Year 8 and 9 with a strong interest in Maths who want to build on their algebra skills. Based upon the Level 2 Algebra Award, this course is a solid foundation in the application of algebra and its techniques to a wide range of mathematical problems, a superb opportunity to master the basics of the subject and use it to develop your problem solving skills. Live lessons include opportunities for students to attempt problems and ask the teacher questions, and to explore enrichment opportunities and development of problem solving skills.

We're providing this course partly because we want to help students whose education has been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Lessons take place on Wednesdays at 4:30pm.

Recordings will be available for those who have to miss lessons, but regular attendance is expected.

We have not yet decided how long the course will continue for but will discuss this with students who join the course.

There is no charge to take part in this course but priority will be given to students in state funded schools in the Liverpool City Region.

You will need:
- a quiet place to work at home or school
- a computer or tablet that can join a Zoom meeting (microphone and camera not necessary) [if this is a problem please apply anyway and we'll try to find a way to help]
- to be able to join our Google Classroom (you may need to use a personal Google account for this as your school account may not be able to join our classroom)
- the commitment and time to complete work set outside lessons
- pencil and paper

The course is open to Year 8 and 9 students in schools in Merseyside and the North West.  You will need to provide a contact email address for the school you attend so that we can check who you are and confirm your suitability for a place.  We will let your school know that you are taking part and may occasionally update them on your progress or contact them if we have any concerns.
