2023 Junior Servant Leader Intern Job Description and Application
The Hannah Project is seeking 8-10 students from diverse backgrounds with a particular interest and/or experiences that match those of the children we serve in Marin City and other low-income neighborhoods in the county to fill the position of Junior Servant Leader Intern at our six-week 2023 Freedom School June 20 -July 28, 2023.

Our perfect candidate will be a rising junior, senior or a recent high school graduate who is highly motivated, believes strongly in the importance of education, is socially and emotionally disciplined, loves to work and share information with children, has a GPA of 2.75 or more, and is unafraid to share their opinions and perspectives  openly. This candidate will be familiar with current affairs and passionate about social justice issues. As a JSLI, you will support a Servant Leader Intern (SLI) in a classroom of up to 12 Scholars in grades 3-8 in the morning. A self-starter who learns from both his or her strengths and weaknesses, you are receptive to feedback, active in classroom management, work collaboratively with your assigned SLI and other Freedom School team members, model academic engagement and responsibility for scholars, and commit to continuous improvement. You will play a large role in the planning and development of Social Action Day activities.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

Be an instructional support to the SLI, who leads the classroom
Support Integrated reading activities and projects  
Act as a classroom assistant in the Integrated Reading Curriculum (IRC) and facilitate one-on-one reading support as requested
Develop and present at least one IRC lesson plan to scholars
Analyze learning outcomes with your Servant Leader Intern
Implement best practices for classroom management
Mentor scholar participants in Hannah Freedom School programming
Provide supervision and instruction to students grade 2-8
Facilitate mediation and problem solving for scholars

Provide general program support
Assist in the setup, management, and break down of classroom space according to standards developed by the Hannah Project and enforced by SLIs.
Assist in daily cleaning duties—facilities and supplies should be kept orderly.
Assist with supervising children at all times—no child should ever be left alone.
Assist in all areas of the program including:  field trips, lunch and any area that pertains to Freedom School

Serve as a positive role model for all students.
Maintain a professional decorum at all times.
Respect other staff members and their opinions.
Must wear Junior Servant Leader Program T-shirt.
Attend all required trainings.
FULLY participate in Harambee and occasionally act as Harambee leaders.

Use research skills to develop and engage  the local community in a social action project in conjunction with other JSLIs

Be an active learner
Participate in all workshops and trainings as presented by the Hannah Project Freedom School.
Report any issues or concerns regarding students and fellow JSLIs to the JSLI Coordinator.
Complete other duties as assigned.
