Submit this form in order for the Subject Committee to discuss your suggestion.
Before submitting a suggestion, please review the following:
- Review the current edition of the BISAC Subject Headings to ensure your suggestion is not already covered by an existing heading. Your suggestion may appear in a different section than you are expecting, as a subheading of a broader topic, or as a word or phrase synonymous with what you are suggesting.
- The suggested heading should apply to at least 100 current titles by multiple authors and published by multiple publishers.
- If suggesting a new heading, you must provide at least 10 examples of current titles that would use that heading. These titles should not all be authored by the submitter; examples should show that numerous authors are writing about this topic. Any suggestion submitted without examples may not be discussed at all.
- Provide supporting text about your suggestion if you think it will help the Committee better understand your ask.
- Ensure that the subject you are suggesting fits within one of the existing top-level headings. Let the Committee know which top-level heading you think your suggestion fits into.
- Make your suggestion as specific as possible. The Committee may not discuss suggestions that are too broad (or too interdisciplinary).
- Submitting a suggestion is not a guarantee that a heading will be added, or that a change will be made. The Committee will discuss all properly completed forms; if your suggestion is accepted, it will appear in the next edition of the headings (editions are released in November-December of each year).
- Suggestion forms that are fully and properly completed will be discussed. There is no reason to have many people within your organization/association submit the same request. Different examples of titles that would use a new heading hold more weight than the number of requests received for that heading (all with the same examples).
- Please submit a new form for each addition or change being suggested.
