Join The Rock Academy at the Whitley Community Centre (252 Northumberland Avenue, RG2 7QA) for two weeks of music creation and performance. You can choose to apply for one week or both weeks, it's up to you!
If you cannot attend all four days, you can join individual days, although we would really like you to join us for a whole week if you can. All equipment will be provided, although you can bring along an instrument if you like!
Suitable for ages 10-16.
Each week (w/b Monday 8th and Monday 15th August), we are offering two separate pathways: Music Creation and Music Performance. Sessions will run from Monday to Thursday each week from 10am to 2.30pm with a lunch break. Lunch will be provided as part of these weeks, please note your dietary requirements in the space on the form.
MUSIC CREATION - Compose and produce music for a compilation album
- Working with a music leader, you will spend the week learning how to compose and record original music using music software to create a compilation album. You will learn how to use a music software package, explore loops, samples and synths, record vocals and live instruments and mix your own original tracks. In addition to this music-focused activity, you will also design a cover for the album and take part in a critical listening session to decide which tracks to include on the compilation and the order they should appear. At the end of the week, you will take away a digital copy of the album and art work to share with your family and friends. All equipment will be provided for these sessions and you don’t need any prior musical experience to be involved, just bring your enthusiasm and creativity and learn how to create your own original music.
MUSIC PERFORMANCE - Devise a music-focused vocal show
- Working with a music leader, you will spend the week putting together a music-focused vocal show. The music leader will work with you to choose the songs for a video-recorded performance at the end of the week. In addition to this music-focused activity, there will also be the opportunity to incorporate some dance/movement and acting content to the show, subject to the desire of the group. At the end of the week, you will take away a digital video of the performance to share with your family and friends. All equipment will be provided for these sessions and you don’t need any prior musical experience to be involved, just bring your enthusiasm and creativity and learn how to put together a show.
PLEASE NOTE: The music leader team also reserves the right to change and adapt the content of the week in response to the skills, experience and preference of the participants.
