Summer 2023 Library Pen Pal Program
Inspired by this summer's "All Together Now" theme, the Buchanan District Library and the Bridgman Public Library are excited to offer a pen pal program! Adult patrons of both libraries can sign up to be matched with a pen pal (Buchanan patrons will be matched with Bridgman patrons and vice versa). 

This program is available only to adults at this time. First names and last initials only will be shared. Participants will drop off and receive letters at their home libraries.

After signing up, you will be matched with a pen pal. Matching is dependent on participation and is not guaranteed, but every effort will be made to match all participants. Once matched, you will receive an email with information about your pen pal and instructions to get started. Deadline to enroll is June 17.

Consent and Release Agreement
In order to make this a safe and fun experience for everyone involved, participants must agree to the following rules and guidelines:
Rules and guidelines

  • The Buchanan District Library and the Bridgman Public Library will send participants' letters through Interlibrary Loan. DO NOT share your personal address or other personal information. Please do not exchange social media accounts.

  • Exchange letters only. Please do not send objects other than your letter to your pen pal. Drop off (and pick up) letters at your home library. Envelopes will be provided.

  • Participants will share their first names and last initial only.

  • Please commit to sending at least three letters to your pen pal before August 4, 2023.

  • Bullying and harassment will not be tolerated. If you feel uncomfortable with any interaction you have with your pen pal, report it to library staff immediately.

  • This program is intended to facilitate social interaction, and any use of pen pal communication for other purposes (such as business solicitation) is prohibited.
