Electric Car Club Survey
Who should complete this survey?
This survey is aimed at communities who may have an interest in creating an electric car club.
We are particularly interested in hearing from Town or Parish Councils, community associations or community groups but we’re interested to hear from anyone who wants to know more about EV car clubs.

The survey has been developed by partners in the community electric car club and energy sector to identify the potential for locally based electric car clubs, which could be run on a not-for-profit basis and managed by the communities they serve.

What will the results be used for?
Car clubs in rural areas are invariably less economic compared to an urban location, which left to market forces, means that rural villages and towns may be left behind in the transition to electric transport and the costly charging infrastructure it requires. We hope that our research will support a baseline of evidence for funding to develop more local car clubs, reducing isolation and transport poverty.

The responses to this survey will help to build a picture of the need for community car clubs in rural areas.

Guidance on completing the questionnaire:
Please answer the questions as best you can and skip any questions that you can’t.
If you are responding on behalf of a Council bear in mind we are trying to get an initial opinion/ view so it is not necessary to wait for a full council meeting before responding. All information is anonymous, unless you choose to give any details for further contact.

Further resources
We will be running a number of information sessions on Monday 24th January and Wednesday 2nd February to answer any questions and provide more information on community car clubs. Please contact evcarclubsurvey@gmail.com with any enquiries.

If you would like information on EV car clubs, please scroll to the bottom of the survey, where you will find a short summary on EV car clubs and their impact.

The survey should take less than five minute to complete. Thank you for your time.

EV Car Club Information
What is an EV car club?
Electric car clubs have sprung up across the UK and provide socially inclusive, low emission mobility which helps to break dependency on private car ownership. The Derwent Valley Car Club has been running an EV car club for over 8 years for more information please go to www.facebook.com/derwentvalleycarclub

What are the benefits of an electric car club?
Cheap, accessible, low carbon transport available to everyone in a community.
Each car club vehicle could remove around 20 private vehicles from our roads and save members up to £3500 per annum.
Also provides access to usable transport in rural communities where other options may be limited.
Makes sure even the most vulnerable members of your community can benefit from low carbon transport.

New Government legislation will stop the sale of new diesel or petrol cars from 2030, encouraging consumers to adopt electric vehicles to lower carbon emissions and improve air quality.  However, at the moment electric cars are expensive and not everyone can afford to own a car at all.  The high capital cost of EV’s means that parts of society will be excluded.

Practical way to reduce carbon emissions:
Transport is one of the largest contributors to CO2 emissions in the UK. In 2019, domestic transport was responsible for emitting 27% of the UK’s total emissions. Of this, the majority (91%) came from road transport vehicles, 61% of which were cars and taxis.

Reduce congestion:
The electric car market is growing quickly, with 300,000 pure-electric cars on UK roads in August 2021. However, with population increases it is likely that car ownership will grow up to 50% over the next 30 years. Meaning that although emissions will reduce congestion and journey times will increase.
