The Jesus & Justice Collective presents: Taking a Look at Racial Trauma and its Effects ~ pre-registration only

When:
February 5, 2023 |  2:00 - 3.45 pm

NEW location: 47385 Warm Springs Blvd, Fremont, CA 94539 | hosted by South Bay Community Church

Why:  To better understand what Racial trauma, or what Race-based traumatic stress is, and the cumulative effects of it on an individual's mental and physical health. As well as our own cognitive dissonance and roles in healing.

What:  We are pleased to have Lynn Gardner-Lockett of South Bay Community Church come back to share her full presentation and activities. As before, there will be guided discussion moments and an affinity group break out session.

Who: we invited the attendees present at the 1/15 event who were there with the intent to listen and learn, and not disrupt. As we will spend some time processing the last event, with a few exceptions, we are not extending the invite to those who did not attend. Attendees will also need to agree and abide by the Jesus and Justice Collective Ground Rules. We hope you've had the chance to read the letter emailed to you: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qnGfn-C9W9hSWd-IBn7u5Nz8peAr1RtLV0uRXcXYtys/edit?usp=sharing, thank you for taking the time to do so and re-engaging with us.

Snacks will be provided. We'd love for you to join us, please sign up below so that we may accommodate you.

Stay engaged and listen to understand. Our purpose for our events is to understand the presenter’s point of view. If you don’t agree with the perspective, please process that quietly and respectfully. We have limited time for attendees to speak, and reserve the right to cut participants off so that others have a chance to speak.

Be comfortable with being uncomfortable -  If you don’t feel you can process quietly and respectfully, do not disrupt the event or you will be asked to leave.  Instead, reach out to us through email at Jesusandjusticecollective@gmail.com and we can discuss in another forum.

Expect and accept non-closure - each of our events has a specific focus to talk about a problem that may affect one racial group or another more than others, and that focus may leave some people in the moment feeling angry. This is normal. What we can't have, though, is to have those feelings of anger take over the mission of healing and justice.

Speech that is hurtful to marginalized peoples will be called out. If the speaker persists in voicing their opinions hurtfully we will ask them to leave.

Our mission is to promote racial conciliation while glorifying God's design of diversity.  If you are opposed to that mission, this event is not the place to express that opposition.  If you disrupt the event we will ask you to leave.
