Beignet Fest Foundation is seeking part-time workers to staff Benny’s Sensory Activation Vehicle.
We’re delighted to provide Benny’s Sensory Activation Vehicle for local events to
help make them more inclusive for individuals on the autism spectrum and others
who may have sensory needs. Benny’s Sensory Activation Vehicle is fully equipped for respite and play. The walls and floor are lightly carpeted, and the lighting is kept low.
There’s air conditioning to keep it cool. All the features are specially designed to calm the mind and engage users. Elements include a bubble wall where children can watch water flow in a series of frames that glow different colors. There are also wooden puzzles, soft bean bag chairs, an interactive colored-light panel and textured elements for tactile sensory input. In addition to the sensory activation vehicle, sensory bags that include items like headphones and fidget toys will be available to borrow through the program at events.
We will need individuals to work different events to monitor access, assist with users, keep the trailer and surrounding area clean, assist with set-up/breakdown, and be an ambassador for the Beignet Fest Foundation and its mission. As staff will be working with children, we require a background check with your application. More information on obtaining a background check can be found through the City of New Orleans’
Records and Identification Division. All applicants must 18 years or older.
Workers will likely staff events on the weekends and after regular business hours in 4 to 8-hour shifts paid at $15/hour. We are looking for a consistent team of workers who will go through online training to become certified in working on the sensory activation vehicle, which can take up to two hours on your own time. If you are interested, please fill out the application below and someone will contact you for an interview.
