FBCA College Student Scholarship Application

Scholarship Policy

FBC Athens TX

  1.  The Scholarship Ministry Team will award scholarships for one year only.  Applicants may reapply in subsequent years.  Not to exceed four years total.  The number and amount of awards will be determined by the available scholarship funds and the number of applicants.  The amount of each scholarship awarded may also vary from individual to individual.

  2. The scholarship Ministry Team will apply the following factors when selecting students:

    1. Be an active member of FBC, Athens Tx.

    2. The committee will seek to encourage Christian education in line with our church’s mission statement.

  3. Any aid received by the student will be paid directly to the university or seminary attended.  The student will initiate transfer of funds by presenting a letter from FBCA to their respective college or university.

  4. Applications will be made available beginning in February. The deadline for submitting applications will be April 15.

  5. Recipients will be announced at appropriate gatherings.

  6. Money for the scholarship fund will be received from individual gifts and from proceeds from the Joni Pulley Scholarship Fund and the First Baptist Memorial Scholarship Fund.

  7. The Finance Committee will be responsible for directing the investment of the Joni Pulley Endowment Fund in an appropriate investment institution such as the Baptist Foundation of Texas.

  8. A Scholarship Ministry Team member’s child will not be eligible for a scholarship.  A resignation by a committee member prior to the April 1st deadline for submission of applications would make the committee member’s child eligible to apply.

  9. If the committee deems it necessary to deviate from these guidelines, that recommendation will be made to the church.

  10. A student must demonstrate they are actively living their faith as they attend college or university in order to continue receiving scholarship funding and are encouraged to join a local church in their respective community.

  11. In order to receive continued funding, a student must be in good academic standing with their college or university.
