Monitoring biodiversity is crucial to understanding long-term trends as well as the possible causes of change. In this way, monitoring tells us about the *state and trends* of biodiversity, and can give suggestions for conservation action.
In this questionnaire, we focus on birds, in an attempt to discover and compile:
(a) existing bird monitoring activities being carried out on a systematic and regular basis anywhere in India
(b) historical 'snapshots' of bird communities or species, that could potentially be re-done in the present day
Through this exercise, we hope to create a community of birders who can work together to strengthen bird monitoring in India, through capacity-building, exchange of ideas and mutual support.
By bird monitoring we mean any data collection on birds that follows a *consistent protocol*, and is *repeated* at a location (or collection of location) over multiple years. Historical 'snapshots' may be from single or multiple years in the past, following a defined protocol.
Please fill out this form if you are doing (or have ever done) bird monitoring anywhere in India. If you are involved in more than one bird monitoring project, please fill out a *separate form* for each such activity. Please fill in historical 'snapshot' studies in the same form. If you have no direct involvement in current or past monitoring work yourself, but are aware of other projects, please do write this in the comments at the end.
IMPORTANT: By filling out this form you agree to having the information (barring email address) summarised and shared in the public domain.
