2022 Summer Reading Program: South Dakota Shakespeare Theatre Workshops Registration
Friday, June 17th, 2022 | Theatre Workshops for Youth with the South Dakota Shakespeare Festival! Each time slot is separated into two age groups: 8-12 and 13-18.

Registration for the Summer Reading Program is required before registering for individual workshops. If you have not already registered for the 2012 Summer Reading Program, please do so here:

Workshop breakdown:

10:00 - 11:00 am: Creating Theatre Page to Stage (Ages 8-12) | Instructor: Siobhan Bremer | Location: Youth Room

In this workshop students will join together to play theatre games as a warm up to bring literature to life. We will use voice, body, emotion and creativity to enliven texts such as True Story and Where the Wild Things Are. Join this fun-filled hour with university theatre professor and professional actress Siobhan Bremer.

10:00 - 11:00 am: ‘Raven Creation Story’ (Ages 13-18) | Instuctor: Skyler Davis | Location: Kozak Room

Come and join Skyler, a Tlingit actor from Alaska, and learn and help tell the traditional Raven Creation Story, of the Tlingit people. Passed down orally from generation to generation since the beginning of time.

11:00 am - 1:00 pm: Lunch Break (Free Lunch for students 18 & under)

1:15 - 2:15 pm: Character Body Exploration (Ages 8-12) | Instructor: Shekendra Morgan | Location: Kozak Room

In this workshop we will explore the connection between body and character through improvisation and randomized prompts. The goal of this workshop is to help connect actors to a more physically connected performance.

1:15 - 2:15 pm: Crowning Around (Ages 13-18) | Instructors: Sabrina Egeland & Camryn Hirschfeld | Location: Youth Room

Participants will use floral wire, pipe cleaners and other found objects to design and create their own wearable crowns sure to make Titania and Oberon jealous.

2:30 - 3:30 pm: Crowning Around (Ages 8-12) | Instructors: Sabrina Egeland & Camryn Hirschfeld | Location: Youth Room

2:30 - 3:30 pm: Approaching Shakespeare (Ages 13-18) | Instructor: Rachel Smith | Location: Kozak Room

Have you ever gone to one of Shakespeare's plays and left feeling confused? Have you heard Hamlet's famous "To be or not to be" and wondered why the characters talk this way? In this workshop, we'll look at Shakespeare's language and give you the tools you need to decode it! Using a monologue from A Midsummer Night's Dream, you'll learn how to understand and perform Shakespeare like a pro!

7:00 pm: A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Prentis Park)
