Salem Elementary Track Change Request Form for 2021-2022
If you would like to request a track change for the 2021-2022 school year, please provide the information requested below by Monday, March 15, 2021. You do not need to complete this form if you have already submitted a track-change request on paper or by email. All forms submitted by March 15th will be given equal consideration. Completion of this form does not guarantee a track change will be granted. Track changes are limited by the availability of open seats, number of classes per grade level, staffing, and any year-round middle school siblings. Please keep in mind that there are class size laws that we must follow. The goal is always to keep the four tracks balanced to best meet the needs of all students.

Track assignments and balancing tracks is challenging at the best of times. This year will be particularly difficult. We are still waiting on a decision about the structure of the Virtual Academy option for next year. How this option is implemented in the school district will have a significant impact on class sizes, the allotment of teachers, and track assignments. We also need to wait to see how many students Olive Chapel Elementary, a capped school for which we are an overflow school, will be calling back. We know that this makes planning for next year’s trackouts difficult, but we need to know how many classes we will have on each grade level and how many teachers we will have before making any final decisions on track changes. To comply with class size requirements, it is possible that some students will be asked to change tracks even if the families did not request a change. We will avoid such changes whenever possible. We are committed to keeping siblings on the same track.

The parent/custodian submitting this track change request acknowledges that both parents/custodians of this student are in agreement with this request being submitted. In cases where one parent/custodian has sole custody of the student, the person submitting this track change request acknowledges his/her legal authority to do so.

Note: Tracks 1, 3, and 4 all have approximately four weeks of overlapping summer vacation with traditional calendar schools, so it is unlikely that a track change related to calendar alignment with a high school sibling would be approved if your child is on one of these tracks. Also, we do not have the flexibility to approve track changes to align with family vacations or summer camps. We would love to give everyone the track that they want, but we just do not have the space, staffing, and resources to meet our students’ needs when we overload tracks.

Special note for families without an assigned track: Our data manager, Mrs. Doherty, will be requesting your track preferences soon. Please understand that we can only assign students to tracks where there is space.

*Due no later than Monday, March 15, 2021.
*If possible, results will be e-mailed to the parent email address provided above in the middle of May.
*Please fill out a separate form for each child. If you have already submitted this form in a different format, you do not need to resubmit it.
*If you have students at a year-round middle school needing a track change as well, you must submit a form to our school and to the middle school.  If you do not submit forms at both schools, we cannot guarantee that both students will be moved to the same track.
* There will not be a “waiting list” for track changes.
* Once a track change has been approved it will not be changed again during the 2021-2022 school year.
