Lessons for beginners take students through the basics of how ceramics projects come to be-
1. prepping your clay,
2. a demo on the steps of throwing
3. 1-on-1 guidance for you to throw
4. overview of the steps after throwing, to get your finished project
5. how to properly clean-up after a throwing session
Chloe also does classes on trimming, glazing, hand-building, and more.
Wheel throwing takes a while to get used to, so new students should know that
they may not have any projects make it through during the first few
classes. They will also not have a finished product after the first
session. A piece needs to be trimmed, dried for several days, then fired
in the kiln to be useable, and the optional step of glazing takes extra time as well. Students can plan subsequent lessons to learn
trimming and glazing.
The lessons can get messy, but clay does not stain and we have aprons for
you to use, comfy pants and a t-Shirt are recommended for lessons.
AMS currently has 3 throwing wheels, 1 being wheelchair accessible.
Nights and weekends work best for lesson times.
