==About the Greater Bay Area==

Where do you picture your dream job? With google at silicon valley? Designing cars and robots with Honda at Minato Tokyo? Or striking it big in the fast finance of downtown Manhattan?

All these dreamy locales share one common feature. They are all located in bay areas, which combine the natural geographic advantages of harbours, access to the sea and fresh water to support a vibrant trading community with access to a thriving workforce.

You dont have to look far from home. With the recent focus on the greater bay area development plan, Hong Kong and its neighbouring cities will rise to challenge other world class bay areas (such as Tokyo and San Francisco) in innovation, finance, logistics and more. Following our highly successful trip to Zhuhai earlier this year, the IMechE NEAR & HKB-YMS will be organizing a trip to Shenzhen to help further promote the opportunities in the area to young and upcoming members of the IMechE.

==About Shenzhen==

Shenzhen was established in May 1980 as the first of the five Special Economic Zones (SEZ). Named after the last Mainland Chinese railway stop in the Kowloon Canton railway line, it was created to be an experimental ground for the practice of market capitalism in China.

It is nowadays known as China's silicon valley, and hosts the Shenzhen Stock Exchange as well as the headquarters of numerous multinational companies such as Tencent, Huawei, DJI, BYD, Vanke, SF Express and Ping An Insurance

Shenzhen ranks 14th in the 2019 Global Financial Centres Index. It has one of the busiest container ports in the world.
