As a 4th Grader, your child will finally have the opportunity to do what so many successful students have done before them, Be Part of the Music! We know that for some of you, this will be your first exposure to instrumental and choral music education and I wanted to take a moment to share some information with you. 

Music education is more than just playing an instrument. It is immersing your child in a culture of successful students and teachers who care about education. It challenges each child to use the creative side of his or her brain while, at the same time, learning a foreign language…MUSIC.

All of the current data clearly states that students involved in music education academically outperform their non-musical counterparts. But, more importantly, studies are showing that music students are less likely to engage in risky behaviors.

Every destination starts with a decision to embark on a journey.  Now is the time to start your child in the performing arts - Band, Chorus and Orchestra - and Southwest Elementary School is the place to do it. We can’t promise that every child will be a musical prodigy, but we can promise they will learn, laugh, and grow along the way.

This past week, all fourth grade students had an opportunity to meet with me (Mrs. Castellano - the band, chorus, and  orchestra director at Southwest School). Together, we sampled instruments to determine what might be the best option. 

Obtaining an Instrument - If you need to rent or purchase your instrument  this school year. Geroge’s Music and The Music Shop offer instrument rentals, sales, lessons, and supplies and are all local small businesses that benefit from your support. I highly suggest renting or buying from one of the vendors listed if you are able to do so. If you are not able to fit that in your family budget, we do offer instrument rentals from the school on a first come/first served basis. Instrument rentals are $75.00 for October 3, 2022 through June 2, 2023. Instrument rentals must be paid prior to the first lesson the week of October 3rd. Checks should be made payable to Southwest Elementary School; cash is accepted as well (no coins please). 

This is an exciting time where both you and your child can explore the different options and get help choosing the experiences and classes that will help them be successful in school and beyond. Como estudiante de cuarto grado, su hijo finalmente tendrá la oportunidad de hacer lo que tantos estudiantes exitosos han hecho antes que ellos: ¡Ser parte de la música! Sabemos que para algunos de ustedes, esta será su primera exposición a la educación musical instrumental y coral y quería tomarme un momento para compartir información con ustedes.

La educación musical es algo más que tocar un instrumento. Es sumergir a su hijo en una cultura de estudiantes y maestros exitosos que se preocupan por la educación. Desafía a cada niño a usar el lado creativo de su cerebro mientras, al mismo tiempo, aprende un idioma extranjero... MÚSICA.

Todos los datos actuales establecen claramente que los estudiantes involucrados en la educación musical superan académicamente a sus contrapartes no musicales. Pero, lo que es más importante, los estudios muestran que los estudiantes de música tienen menos probabilidades de involucrarse en conductas de riesgo.

Todo destino comienza con la decisión de emprender un viaje. Ahora es el momento de iniciar a su hijo en las artes escénicas - Banda, Coro y Orquesta - y la Escuela Primaria Southwest es el lugar para hacerlo. No podemos prometer que todos los niños serán un prodigio musical, pero podemos prometer que aprenderán, se reirán y crecerán en el camino.

La semana pasada, todos los estudiantes de cuarto grado tuvieron la oportunidad de reunirse conmigo (Sra. Castellano - la directora de banda, coro y orquesta en Southwest School). Juntos, probamos instrumentos para determinar cuál podría ser la mejor opción.

Obtención de un instrumento: si necesita alquilar o comprar su instrumento este año escolar. Geroge's Music y The Music Shop ofrecen alquiler de instrumentos, ventas, lecciones y suministros y son pequeñas empresas locales que se benefician de su apoyo. Le sugiero que alquile o compre a uno de los proveedores enumerados si puede hacerlo. Si no puede acomodar eso en su presupuesto familiar, ofrecemos alquiler de instrumentos de la escuela por orden de llegada. El alquiler de instrumentos tiene un costo de $75.00 del 3 de octubre de 2022 al 2 de junio de 2023. El alquiler de instrumentos debe pagarse antes de la primera lección la semana del 3 de octubre.
