CALDWELL PUBLIC LIBRARY READING BUDDY RECOMMENDATION FORM
All teens interested in being a reading buddy volunteer for the Caldwell Public Library must submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher, club/school advisor, or school media specialist. Reading Buddies is a program that pairs a teen volunteer with a child learning to read - they act as mentor helping to encourage the child's reading engagement and interest. A volunteer can potentially have a huge impact on the child they are paired with in the program!  Children in the program often form bonds and look up to their reading buddy volunteer.

Below, you will be asked to share your thoughts on why the applicant is a good fit for the program. Some potential areas to consider about the volunteer when writing the recommendation include the following.
  • Dedication and Commitment
  • Trustworthiness and Reliability
  • Communication skills
  • Capacity to be proactive and work with minimal direction
  • Interest level for working with children
  • Interest or passion for reading and literacy
  • Ability to be patient
  • Troubleshooting / Problem Solving / Creative Thinking skills
  • Organization and planning skills
Please note:  Reading Buddies is NOT tutoring - no tutoring skills are needed.
