When: September 20th, 2025
Where: Mexican Heritage Plaza in San Jose, CA

About
SpARC Dance Festival, hosted by ArcTangent Dance, aims to amplify South Bay Area choreographers, dancers, and artists. Making dance visible and available to our community is key to growing our artistic community.

We are looking for professional-level choreographers and dance groups/companies/ensembles to perform in our showcase. Included in the festival is a free, public dance class available to the community before the performance.

Who Should Apply: Professional-level choreographers and dance groups/companies/ensembles. Special priority is given to those who are either based in or originally from the South Bay. Emerging and midcareer choreographers are strongly encouraged to apply!

If you don't have all the details of your piece ready, feel free to add whatever details you have.

Criteria for applying
  • Pieces should not exceed 8 minutes.
  • Any dance style is encouraged to apply!
  • What do we mean when we say the South Bay Area? We know this can mean something different to different people, especially when so many of us commute around the Bay and foster connections in many communities. For our festival, any cities or towns in Santa Clara County (i.e. Sunnyvale, Campbell, Milpitas) is a good way to think about it. Of course we love for our friends in Santa Cruz and the other 8 Bay Area counties to apply as well!
  • Special priority will be given to applicants who have a strong connection to the South Bay Area. This means either rehearsals based in Santa Clara County or dancers who trained, grew up, live, or work in the area.
  • In your application, please be ready to share a video of your proposed piece and a description of the piece (more details below).
  • Please limit your application to 2 pieces from each group/choreographer. You can fill out a seperate application if you wish to submit more than one. Depending on space, we may just pick one piece to perform.
  • Please have your application complete by April 20th, 2025. We will inform you by email in mid May to Mid-June of our decision.
What to Expect on Sept. 20th
  • Throughout the day, artists and vendors from the community will share their artwork in the lobby.
  • Tech rehearsal will take place sometime between 11:30-4 pm. Each piece receives 20 minutes for tech rehearsal.
  • After tech rehearsal and before the performance, there will be a public, free dance class for the community (time TBD). Please encourage your dancers to take the class in order to warm up and to build connections with other dancers and community members.
  • 5:30 Call Time
  • 6pm - Performers Meeting/Bow Practice
  • 6:30-8:30pm - Dance Showcase
