Strengthening the Northeast's seed and plant supply chain
Ecological restoration and allied activities are hamstrung by chronic commercial shortages of seeds and plant material of known provenance for most native plant species. Our emerging network aims to build and reinforce connections among government agencies, tribal groups, educational institutions, non-profit organizations, botanic gardens, farmers, private companies, and citizen groups. We see this as a first step in increasing the accessibility of genetically diverse source-identified seeds and plants for the ecoregions of the Northeastern US to support reforestation, coastline rehabilitation, urban street tree planting and forestry, agroforestry and regenerative agriculture, pollinator pathway creation, and blue-green flood water infrastructure activities.
