Embracing Our Narratives: Summer Institute, June 17-21, 2024
The Jefferson School African American Heritage Center invites PK-12 educators to apply for the  fifth annual Embracing Our Narratives Summer Institute to explore local history through the lens of African American people. The EON Institute will be held June 17-21, 2024 and will meet Monday through Friday for approximately five hours per day. Sessions will include in person lectures, discussions, and place-based site tours, along with asynchronous/individual reflection and activities. By emphasizing narratives of African American resilience, agency, and resistance, EON helps educators better understand our community and develop a more inclusive curriculum. This is an intermediate level course, and interested participants must have had some racial bias or culturally responsive teaching training. Professional development re-licensure points awarded for completion of course.

Participants are expected to fully participate in all institute sessions and commit to integrating local history into their curriculum materials in the upcoming school year. The deadline to apply is April 17, 2024. Notifications will be sent via email in late April/early May.
