Coal regions of the past, resilient economies of the future
Coal+ regions across Europe, and beyond, have often been the literal motors driving their countries’ economies. Now that it’s clear that we must urgently decarbonise our economies as much as possible, these same regions are facing a need to pivot towards emerging opportunities. Many of these regions are very close to being mono-economies and are at risk of falling greatly behind. Since a key principle of the Just Transition is to leave no one behind, eager change-makers are seeking solutions to diversify their economies and develop innovative businesses, ideally becoming more future-proof than a coal-based economy has proven to be. This webinar brings together practitioners’ voices from several European coal regions to identify both challenges and potential pathways towards economic resilience.
