Social Justice through Intergroup Dialogue
Intergroup Dialogue brings students from diverse backgrounds together to explore an element of their identity such as race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, gender, sexuality, or (dis)ability identity. Through an intensive dialogic process, students explore their own identities, listen and learn as others share elements of their background and experience, and connect these discussions to broader examination of historical and contemporary systems of power, privilege, and oppression. This work is intended to cultivate intergroup understanding and the ability to positively engage in a pluralistic society. The course builds critical thinking skills and engages students with the principles of social justice by foregrounding skills in communication around issues of identity and difference, content that connects individual and group experiences to wider historical and contemporary contexts, and self-reflective work that interrogates the reasoning and impact of one’s personal beliefs and actions.
The following questionnaire is designed to collect information to help balance group composition. Please answer the questions based on your personal understanding of your identity.
