Please note that due to the ongoing global pandemic, we have postponed the event until April!
We're excited to announce the Wahlstrom Nordic Workshop April 8–April 10, 2022, at the Beaver Creek Nature Reserve in Fall Creek, Wisconsin! The deadline for registration is March 25
As always, this year’s program will include Nordic games (with a slight change from our regular winter programming!), woodcarving, weaving, folk dancing, home cooked meals, as well as discussions and presentations about the Nordic region.
Thanks to a generous grant from the American Scandinavian Foundation, we’ll be hosting several additional folk artists to work with you, including bandweaving, folk dancing, rosemaling and various forms of woodcarving, including flat-plane carving.
The registration fee for the entire weekend (which includes food, lodging, and all materials) is $60. If you are only attending one day, the fee is $40. Attendees should pay the registration fee when they arrive at Beaver Creek.
Students will receive free registration this year from the Sustaining Scandinavian Folk Arts in the Upper Midwest project. However, because of space restrictions, we can only host 75 students, so please register in advance!
ALL ATTENDEES must register using the online form below—students, faculty and staff, community members, everyone! Please register by March 25. We ask that those who register be committed to attending so that other people who may want to attend are not missing out. Please register ahead of time.
The Midwest Institute of Scandinavian Culture has the following COVID-19 plan (subject to change, of course, depending on the public health situation):
--Masks must be worn indoors in all buildings at all times except to eat and sleep.
--Proof of a recent negative COVID test within 72 hours is required to attend
--Proof of vaccination and a negative COVID test within 72 hours is required if staying overnight in the cabins
--Be asymptomatic
--Social distancing rules may apply
Finally, there will also be a pre-conference, an all-day student-led undergraduate research conference on April 8 in partnership with the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire. Focusing on the languages and cultures of the Upper Midwest, this event will require separate registration and more information will be forthcoming.
We’re looking forward to seeing you all again in April!
