Being part of a committee is a great way to dive into volunteer work at school in the areas that you're interested in without committing to an Executive Board position. Committee members are appointed by the board.

Checkathon Committee Responsible for Checkathon, our school-wide fundraiser during which families send in donations to support our predetermined goal/target. Requires preparation and planning from June-August to design a theme, order supplies and giveaways, plan marketing/communication and recognition, including providing information to our community about employee/company matching initiatives. Then requires full daily availability for 2 weeks in August for kickoff event and to count and tabulate donations, write receipts and generate reports daily followed by wrap-up and recognition for donors.

Fall Festival Committee Responsible for Fall Festival, our school-wide festival event that raises money for teacher spending accounts, usually held on a Friday evening in late October/early November. Requires preparation and planning starting in July/August to coordinate vendors and contracts, concessions/food, games/activities, volunteer/teacher recruitment and assignments, marketing/signage/map, wristbands/tickets and sales, and raffle/auction. Will be particularly busy during the two weeks prior to the event.

Celebration of Cultures Night/Celebration of Science & Engineering Night Committee Responsible for assisting with coordinating our school-wide event usually held on a Thursday evening in February (they alternate years, so 2025 will be Celebration of Cultures Night). Requires preparation and planning starting in November to coordinate presenters, concessions/food, games/activities, volunteer recruitment and assignments, marketing/signage/map. Will be particularly busy during the two weeks prior to the event.

Event Concessions Committee Responsible for coordinating concessions for our key events (Fall Festival, Celebration of Cultures Night/Science & Engineering Night, Arts Night) including confirming vendors and/or making food plan, planning shopping and needs lists, communicating volunteer needs to other committee chairs, planning and executing setup for concessions areas during the event.

Teacher & Staff Appreciation Committee Responsible for coordinating our year-long schedule of teacher & staff appreciation initiatives including teacher/staff meals & appreciation efforts throughout the year, and all events for Teacher Appreciation Week in early May.

Community & Social Media Committee Responsible for managing and maintaining our social media accounts with event updates, information, announcements and recognition, and the PTO website, as well as organizing monthly parent socials.

Grade-Level Coordinators Committee Responsible for recruiting, supporting and communicating with grade-level parent coordinators (volunteers who will act as a conduit between teachers and parents in their grade-level for teacher needs, class parties and/or other volunteer recruitment, possibly coordinating gifts for teacher birthdays and holidays, etc.). This committee also develops a monthly schedule for grade level volunteers to update the bulletin board in the teacher lounge and donate treats for teachers one time during the school year.

Book Fair Responsible for working with our school librarian to plan, manage and coordinate volunteers for our Fall & Spring week-long annual Book Fairs - usually the week just before fall break (September/October) and spring break (February/March). Requires a few meetings/planning calls in the months before the Fair and then significant availability the week of the Fairs to help manage on-site.

Spirit Gear Committee Responsible for managing inventory, ordering and coordinating sales (usually at key events) for KGA spirit gear.

Family Fun Events Committee These events are organized and led entirely by the PTO. The dates and programming are flexible. Possible events include, but are not limited to Movie/Game/Family Fun Nights and Beginning/End of Year events.

School Events Committee (support-role) These are designated school events that are on the calendar every year coordinated primarily by the administration. PTO provides some financial and organizational support, including meals, snacks, refreshments for teachers Events include Back to School/Meet the Teacher Night, BooHoo Breakfast, Family Breakfast and Curriculum Night.
