Job description: This is a combination position of lab manager and programmer. This
position is excellent especially for post-baccalaureates who want to pursue
graduate school in social sciences. Through this position, you will receive
training in psychological science, how to conduct empirical research,
and receive mentorship about graduate school with the possibility of co-authorship
given substantive intellectual contribution. You will have the chance to possibly
collaborate with lab members on research projects and attend or present at
scientific meetings.

The lab manager part of this position entails leadership over a broad variety of
tasks associated with managing the lab, experiments, and research assistants. The person would work closely with the faculty principal investigator (PI), and with the grad students, postdocs, and
undergrad research assistants in the lab. The person should be interested in psychological
research, and ideally (but not necessarily) have experience with either
participating in or running psychology experiments in a lab. Prior leadership experience is ideal (but
does not have to be in a psych lab!). The specific hours per week (which days,
which time ranges) are somewhat flexible.
Specific
responsibilities of the lab manager aspect of the position include:
- Supporting lab members in conducting and running
experiments
- Helping with stimuli creation, experiment design,
and administration logistics
- Organization and management of data and materials
- Maintaining equipment, overseeing lab space
- Organizing lab meetings and lab communications
- Recruiting, training, and managing research
assistants
- Helping with managing lab expenses
The programmer part of the position entails being in charge
of creating web-based psychology experiments and stimuli. The successful
applicant should be experienced in front-end web programming, with a particular
emphasis on user-friendly interactive programming in javascript/jQuery, as well
as HTML/CSS. Proficiency with cross-browser compatibility testing and
experience with or willingness to learn some PHP and asynchronous programming
with AJAX, as well as Qualtrics and Squarespace, is also required. A take-home skills assessment will be part of
the interview process.
