Solo and Ensemble is an activity done by instrumental and vocal ensembles and individuals all around the Nation. Utah High Schools Activities Association sponsors our high school’s solo and ensemble festivals. Students find a solo for their instrument that is appropriate for the festival and for their level of playing and practice it A LOT and come prepared to perform the solo in front of judges who will listen, write comments, and give a score. If the student receives a qualifying score to move on to the next round, we award extra credit for those who make it and then perform at the region festival and the state festival.
Each individual in the Lone Peak Band Program is required to at least participate in our own school-sponsored solo and ensemble festival. We use the school-sponsored festival as a prerequisite to recommending our students to the region festival and then state festival.
The date of the school solo ensemble is Tuesday, February 23, 2021. Students will sign up for a 6 min. slot. Students are required to have an accompanist if the solo requires it. Students NEED to plan in advance for this.
More details:
Solos performed at school solo and ensemble are REQUIRED for each band/percussion student. Ensembles are optional and will be counted as extra credit. However, each student DOES need to perform at required solo and cannot opt for an ensemble experience instead of a solo.
Literature needs to be classical in nature. Need a pianist to accompany you unless it is a piece specifically written for an unaccompanied solo.
If you are signing up to do an ensemble - please note that in the sign-up form.
