Mission
The Reading Olympics program promotes a lifelong love of reading and appreciation of literature by introducing students to diverse genres of quality literature while promoting teamwork within a spirited competition.
Purpose
The Reading Olympics promotes reading, teamwork, and self-confidence while building strong reading skills such as comprehension, critical thinking, and oral communication skills.
Eligibility
In order to participate in the Reading Olympics, 4th and 5th-grade students must return a completed permission slip with parent/guardian signatures. After returning a completed permission slip, each student who wishes to participate must:
These requirements must be met by Friday, January 12th, for students to proceed to the next round of the program.
After Friday, January 12th, students who have met the requirements will be organized into teams. Students will work together to read as many of the books on the Reading Olympics list as possible before Friday, March 29th.
In April, the teams will engage in a friendly competition to see who knows the most about the books!
Each team participates in three rounds of questions.
Team scores are cumulative.
Ribbons and medals are awarded to all participants according to the team's score for all three rounds.
