Busy road policy
If you live close to a busy road, or a road we know cats to have been run over, we will not rehome healthy cats/kittens to be free roaming if we consider the risk to be too high. This is in no way a reflection of someone’s ability to care for a cat, or a judgement of someone’s home environment.

We think it is important that cats can safely explore an outdoor environment and are happier when they can, unless there is a reason why a cat must be kept indoors only. If you live on or near to a road with known issues with speeding, heavy traffic and a history of cats being killed, this doesn’t mean you cannot have a cat at all, but we would require a cat proof garden or a “catio”.

Due to the risks to cats of being run over on busy roads, and the fact that as a rescue we have sadly had to pick up many deceased cats, we reserve the right to refuse an application on the grounds that the road represents too great a risk for us to rehome a cat or kitten.

Please be assured that our “busy road” policy is based on our years of experience of cats’ safety and welfare and is in no way a reflection of you, your home or your ability to give great care to a cat.

Non refundable Adoption fee
The adoption fee is a contribution to our vet fees for vaccinations, microchip, parasite control and neutering and does not cover our costs of food, litter and any other extra vet fees incurred in making sure they are in the best of health. We do not make a "profit" on any cat or kitten, and the adoption fee (along with other donations) enables us to keep rescuing and help the next cat or kitten. We currently require a non-refundable contribution of £125 per cat/kitten (£230 per pair).

Neutering
In the event that you are successful in your application to provide a home for a cat or kitten, it is important that no cat is ever allowed outside until he or she has been neutered (and kittens need to be kept inside until they are physically mature enough to cope outside which can often be when they are nearer 12 months old).

Female kittens can become pregnant from about 4 months old and male kittens can impregnate a female from age of 6 months old.

If you are giving a home to a kitten, in the vast majority of cases the kittens will have been neutered prior to rehoming. This is our policy. However, at our discretion, occasionally a kitten may be able to be homed prior to neutering but we will fully discuss this with you, and any kitten will be rehomed on the strict condition that he or she is taken for neutering at the appropriate time recommended by the vet. In order for the neutering cost to be covered by us, the kittens would need to be neutered at our vets.

If you undertake to neuter a kitten at your vets at your own expense, we will require confirmation that the neutering has been done. No reduction in fee will be given as it costs us significantly more than our adoption fee to get a kitten ready for adoption. The adoption is not deemed final until a kitten has been neutered. It is our absolute priority to ensure the cats and kittens we are responsible for are neutered and do not go on to have more kittens, thereby adding to the problem we are trying to address.

Three months follow up
We will contact you in 3 months to check how the cat or kitten is settling with your family. If there are any concerns or issues before that time, please drop us a message and we can advise on behaviour etc and suggest when a vet visit might be appropriate.

Lifetime responsibility
Sadly, our feline companions do not live as long as us, but we do take a lifetime interest in the cats and kittens we have helped to re-home. We will keep the cat/kitten’s details in our records for their lifetime, so please send us updates on how they are doing, and also please inform us when they pass away. It is at this point we will remove the information from our files. As part of our lifetime responsibility to our cats and kittens, we ask that you notify us of any changes in your circumstances that mean you would be unable to care for the cat. We request that the cat is referred back to us, and we will find another suitable home, rather than being surrendered to another rescue or moved to another home that we have no record of.

Microchips
It is our policy that all cats are microchipped and registered to their keeper. As part of this process, it is necessary to pass your details to the microchip company. We will not rehome a cat without a microchip so it will not be possible to adopt a cat from us without implied consent to register a microchip with your details with them.

Pet Insurance
All our cats come with 5 weeks' free insurance, whatever their age. We cannot set this up without your permission, therefore our adoption agreements will include agreement to the 5 weeks' insurance. If you have your own insurance or do not require our free 5 weeks insurance from Agria please advise at the time of returning the adoption agreement.

Privacy information
We do not pass your details on to any other third party without your prior written consent via message or email. We do not use your details for any marketing purposes and will retain your contact details on our files solely for the purposes of the cat’s ongoing welfare and providing help and advice.

Personal information

We will only retain your contact details i.e., name, address, phone number, email address on file together with the details of any cat rehomed with you. We ask about any health issues/allergies ONLY in relation to whether you or a family member’s health could be impacted by a cat in the home, and to ensure that caring for the cat will not become a significant problem over the longer term. We do NOT require details of any other health conditions if this is in no way relevant to rehoming a cat.
